Privacy Policy
The short version: We collect only what we need to run the app. Your pet photos are sent to OpenAI for analysis and are not permanently stored by us. Your account data is stored securely in Firebase. Your subscription and payment are handled by Apple through your App Store account — we never see your card details. We never sell your data to anyone.
1. Who We Are
Pet AI Wellness ("we," "us," or "our") is an independent mobile application developed and operated by Theodore Flood, based in Staatsburg, New York. You can reach us at support@petaiwellness.com.
2. Information We Collect
Information you provide directly
- Email address — used to create and manage your account
- Pet details — information you choose to add about your pet, such as a name or species, to organize your scan history
Pet AI Wellness is distributed through the Apple App Store, and subscriptions are purchased through Apple's In-App Purchase system. We do not collect or store your payment card details. Your payment information is handled by Apple under Apple's Privacy Policy. Apple provides us with limited subscription status information (for example, whether your subscription is active) so we can grant access to paid features.
Information generated when you use the app
- Pet photos — when you tap "Scan," the photo you select is sent to OpenAI's GPT-4o Vision API for analysis. We do not permanently store the raw photo on our servers. The photo is transmitted for analysis and the result (mood, wellness score, observations, tips) is returned and saved to your account
- Scan results — mood, wellness score, observations, and tips from each scan are saved to your account history in Firebase
- Usage data — basic app usage information (such as scan count) used to enforce subscription limits and improve the app
Information collected automatically
- Device information — device type and operating system version, collected by Firebase for analytics and crash reporting
- Firebase Analytics — anonymous usage patterns to help us understand how the app is used. No personally identifiable information is included
3. How We Use Your Information
- To create and manage your account
- To grant and manage access to your subscription based on the status Apple reports for your purchase
- To perform pet wellness analysis via OpenAI's API
- To save and display your scan history
- To send transactional and account emails (such as support replies and important notices) via Mailchimp
- To improve the app based on anonymous usage patterns
- To respond to your support requests
4. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share data only with the third-party services that power the app:
Apple
Subscriptions are purchased and managed through your Apple App Store account. Apple processes your payment and manages billing, renewals, and cancellations. Apple's handling of your information is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. We receive only the subscription status information needed to provide the service.
OpenAI
Pet photos are transmitted to OpenAI's API for analysis. OpenAI's use of data submitted via API is governed by their Privacy Policy. API data is not used to train OpenAI models by default.
Firebase (Google)
Your account data, scan history, and authentication are stored in Google Firebase. Firebase is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
Mailchimp
We use Mailchimp to send transactional and account-related emails. Your email address may be stored in Mailchimp. Their use of data is governed by their Privacy Policy.
5. Data Retention
We retain your account data and scan history for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your data will be removed from our systems within 30 days. You can delete your account at any time from within the app, or request deletion by emailing support@petaiwellness.com. Canceling your subscription through Apple stops future renewals but does not by itself delete your account data; use in-app account deletion or contact us to remove your data.
6. Data Security
Your data is stored in Google Firebase with encryption at rest and in transit. We follow industry-standard security practices. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Children's Privacy
Pet AI Wellness is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
8. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data
- Opt out of marketing emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email

9. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, request deletion of your data, and opt out of the sale of your personal information. We do not sell personal information. To submit a request, email support@petaiwellness.com.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
